John Quinn
Born in Ireland, John has been associated with horses from a young age starting with riding hunters at his grandfather’s farm. His interest in horses led to him having a stint as a jockey, reaping around 100 winners in Britain and Ireland. In 1995 John took out a trainer’s license having previously run a livery stable at the Bellwood Cottage yard which he still occupies to this day. Success was slow to begin with but through hard work and a good supporting team John has gradually worked his way higher up the training ranks, achieving his best-ever tally of winners in 2009. John’s operation is upwardly mobile and having acquired better quality horses over the past few seasons this is an exciting time to be associated with the team. ![]() Tony Carroll
Born in March 1957, Tony grew up with horses and after leaving school he was offered the position of stable jockey with Pat Taylor, whom he stayed with for six years. He then moved to Stan Mellor for a further six years before turning freelance. During his career he rode over 250 winners including Tip The Wink and Royal Mail. Upon retiring from the saddle Tony turned to training and ran a stable at Inkberrow for 10 years. As demand for his services grew he moved to larger premises at Wixford where he stayed for six years before relocating in 2006 to his current purpose-built premises at Cropthorne. Although respected for his handling of generally modest stock, Tony has now started to attract a better quality of horse and approaches the 2010 campaign with a well-balanced team comprised of jumpers and all-weather and turf horses for the Flat.
Tony has shown, notably in his placing of Cerulean Rose (winner of five consecutive races) and more recently The Cayterers, that he has an astute understanding of the programme book. Having been to visit the yard on a couple of occasions recently I am confident that Tony is the right man to get the best out of Empress Leizu. |
