Charities

Each year thousands of horses leave racing, some because they reach the natural end of their career, others through injury, old age or lack of ability. The TRC is the original charity dedicated to the welfare, re-training and re-homing of ex-racehorses.

About the Injured Jockeys Fund
The Injured Jockeys Fund was the brainchild of our President and founding Trustee John Oaksey and came about following the horrendous accidents of Tim Brookshaw and four months later Paddy Farrell in the 1964 Grand National. Both falls resulted in severe paralysis and immediately ended two careers.
With virtually no compensation available at the time to help injured jockeys, the Farrell-Brookshaw fund was created. Support was instantaneous and following several name changes, tireless work by many for over 40 years, the IJF has become what it is today; - a fund that has helped over 1000 jockeys and which is still dedicated to helping injured jockeys when ever needed.
Furthermore the IJF has heightened awareness of the risks of race riding resulting in the racing authorities implementing many safety initiatives for the protection of Jockeys, which continues.

Dark Horse Racing is committed to helping charities. Although we will predominantly focus on ones that work with horses we will also be making donations to others.
Once we have received the full information from our charities and their logos we will upload them onto the site.
